Hello dear hearts
My thirty-third birthday is on Tuesday. I thought it would be fun to share with y’all what I have learned, remembered, pondered, and experienced in the last year. I’ll split this up in three parts as a little count down to my birthday.
In case you missed it, here is part one.
Now, on to the next eleven.
12. Some of my favorite jobs I have had: bookseller & barista at Barnes & Noble, volunteer welcome/admin at yoga studio, live in nanny, concierge at a fancy apartment complex, and front desk/housekeeping at hotel.
13. I need both routine and flexibility. My routine goes through cycles for various reasons, so it can be upsetting when it’s thrown off. When it’s thrown off again and again, that usually means I’m not accounting for something or the season has shifted or I need something else. It has taken a long time to realize this, and while it can still get upsetting, I’m better able to adapt now.
14. If I ever refuse dessert, I’m either sick or really not doing well.
15. Wylan, Hannigram, and Ghostsoap are ships that I love even though I’ve never actually seen/read/played any of the media that these are from. They are ships that belong to people I know and love and have seen them post about these characters so much, that I have started to fall in love with them too. Before you come for me, Hannibal is on my list to watch and I will read the Six of Crows duology eventually!
16. One day, I will have a wall full of coffee mugs.
17. I have been thinking about dream careers of mine from my late teen and early twenties that I’ve let go for several reasons. How some of them were rooted in saviorism, appropriation, and carceral institutions. How some of them glorified being burnt out, overworked, and underfunded. But I’ve been really reevaluating a lot about dreams, jobs, careers, legacy, and the roles I actually want to embrace. And I know I’m just at the tip of the iceberg.
18. Traveling by train is my favorite way to travel.
19. Sometimes I will spend a whole day watching scary movies and then have to watch a kids movie to fall asleep to, otherwise I have nightmares. My go-to movies are Bedknobs & Broomsticks, Atlantis: The Lost Empire, The Emperor’s New Groove, and The Addams Family.
20. About 75% of my wardrobe black or gray. The rest of it is dark earthy neutrals and the occasional light blue, cream, or white.
21. Potatoes in any form are my ultimate comfort food. I once was so in need of comfort I had a dinner of French fries, tater tots, and loaded potato skins. The thing about comfort food for me is that it has to be warm. My exception is when I’m in Texas, because then the comfort food is ice cream because it’s too hot for anything else.
22. I make a cup of coffee every morning. Even if I am unable to actually drink it, I can at least smell it or take a small sip.
Thank you again for celebrating with me. Final eleven are tomorrow!

that is such a good idea about bookending horror movies with a kids movie! I'm going to try that next time
