August Wrap-Up
Once again, where does the time go? I don’t know how I made it to the end of August. But that could be the crip time/dissociation/summer SAD all converging to make time unreal to my brain.
But this is the first time in a long while that I have felt Okay, Truly. And wanted to share my recent month.
What I Read
I have been slowly making my way through Before the Coffee Gets Cold by Toshikazu Kawaguchi series. This translated series set at a café in Tokyo that lets you travel back in time — though there are many rules. This first book does deal with relatively difficult but cathartic topics but I’m truly enjoying this one, even though it gives me emotional hangovers.
I am also reading Reluctant Immortals by Gwendolyn Kiste. This one has been on my TBR for a while. It’s set in Los Angeles 1967 and inspired by Lucy from Dracula and Bertha from Jane Eyre. I’m only about a quarter of the way through, but am loving the portrayal of both Lucy and Bertha, classic characters who are frequently looked over. This seems to be a reclamation of their stories and their freedoms and I’m so into it.
Overall, I think I’m still in a reading slump because I am unable to read my usual romances for various reasons. But I’m still consuming stories in other ways such as Asian dramas…so many of them.

Earlier this month, I outlined a new story but have yet to actually start anything else about it. I think I’ll try to start working on this story for September, but might also just set it to the side and start something else entirely. I’m not sure if my heart can handle a heavy sibling story right now.
