Behind the Stacks is a new weekly thread post for readers of In A Brown Study. Imagine we have a secret cozy room tucked away in the study where we can gather, talk amongst ourselves, and talk about the things we truly want to talk about without worrying about word limits or voices being lost.
One of my favorite parts of writing is listing out The Vibes, the aesthetics, the little details, the large feelings. So let’s share our current WIPs vibes! Or your current reads vibes.
Feel free to add Pinterest boards, playlists, links, etc.
WIP #1: midnight coffee dates, the shadow of a bell tower, jasmine and rose perfume, scraps of paper, red lipstick, a closet full of wigs, cardigans, sapphic pining, revenge plots, accidental murder
WIP #2: oak ash thorn, tattoos that heal, the one eyed wise one, offering tables, canes and back braces, hotels that appear out of nowhere, deities and demons who fall in love with humanity
WIP #3: "do i want to punch him or kiss him?", the grumpy one loves the bratty one, plaid suits, mesh tops, glitter in places there shouldn't be glitter, taboo/forbidden relationship, a bar named Orlando's
OOH. My WIPs are all in my head at the moment, and all nonfiction -- but most of them are inspired by song lyrics and these are the songs taking up space in my mind right now:
"fortunately, I'm the only one here with a key / fortunately, there's no one around to hear you scream / fortunately I'll make sure you meet your queen / guess I'll find out if I really have it in me / fortunately, you have made me walk outside the line / fortunately, revolution's not afraid of crime / fortunately, we are running out of time / guess we'll find out if I really have it in me"
"I don't know what the ticketman told you, but this journey's just begun / the river ebbs and the river flows and the river takes what the river wants"
"and it is well, with my soul / you line your pockets full of money that you steal from the poor / and on your way down the hill / you hear me ring that bell / I'd pay the devil twice as much to keep your soul"
There are a lot more but these definitely count, I think.

Okay, first of all, I forgot I even had a Pinterest board until this post. It's mostly just visuals for characters, but still.
